FOXBURG — Kyle Armagost did not want to meet with disappointment on A-C Valley's floor for a third straight year.

His performance in the fourth quarter made sure that didn't happen.

Moniteau's junior guard scored 15 of the Warriors' 22 points in the final period, paving the way to a 65-57 road victory Wednesday night.

Moniteau lost at A-C Valley in Armagost's freshman (55-36) and sophomore (75-62) seasons.

He ended Wednesday's game with 29 points and eight rebounds while teammate Zach Sloan managed a double-double with 18 points and 16 rebounds.

“I told the team I wasn't losing here again,” Armagost said. “I told them I'd do my part and they had to do their's.

“We know we can score,” he added. “We just have to keep playing well on defense.”

Moniteau used an impressive fourth-period run to lay the foundation for its latest victory.

With 6:45 left in the game, the Warriors led by just two before scoring 13 straight points.

The spurt started with a two-point goal from Sloan, followed by a 3-pointer from Ethan Pry.

Armagost made two free throws and then scored a trio of baskets, aided by consecutive turnovers by the Falcons (5-7, 4-4), who suddenly trailed 56-41 with just under five minutes to play.

“For most of the game, we were OK with slowing things down,” said Warriors' coach Randy Armagost. “In the fourth quarter, we started to speed things up and it worked. We were able to press on defense and created some turnovers.”

A-C Valley cut its deficit to 61-53 with Allan Eaton's basket with 1:21 left, but the Falcons simply ran out of gas.

Turnovers proved to be the undoing for A-C Valley, which committed 24 in the game, including eight in the fourth quarter.

“Turnovers and Kyle Armagost, those two things did us in tonight,” said Falcons' coach Jim Marron. “Moniteau's defense is pretty intimidating. They contest every pass and we just have to take better care of the basketball.

“But I'm starting (one senior and four sophomores),” added Marron. “We've been in most of our games and I've seen a lot of progress in the underclassmen.”

The Falcons received 24 points and nine rebounds from Eaton and 20 points and nine rebounds from Ryan Bartley.

With the victory, Moniteau (9-6 overall) improved to 6-4 in the KSAC's South Division.

“We played smart basketball tonight,” said Coach Armagost. “We played harder on defense and cut our turnovers in half. If we continue to do those things, we should be one of the better teams around.”
