2012 MEMORABLE GAMES

The Butler football team celebrates by hoisting quarterback Jordan Cratty into the air after last season's 49-7 victory over Fox Chapel sent the Golden Tornado into the playoffs for the first time since 1998.

Mars opened the season with a major test and emerged with a crucial win. The Panthers erased a 14-0 deficit to claim a 17-14 edge, but after converting a fourth-and-1, Mars scored the game-winning touchdown on a 2-yard run from Josh Schultheis midway through the fourth quarter.

Butler 49, Fox Chapel 7The Golden Tornado punched a ticket to the WPIAL playoffs for the first time since 1998 by thrashing the Foxes in front of the home crowd at Art Bernardi Stadium.

General McLane 46, Slippery Rock 42The District 10 Class AAA semifinals provided a shootout for the ages. The teams combined for 13 touchdowns and nearly 1,000 yards of total offense. Rockets running back Frank Conlon ran for 152 yards in the first three minutes of the game and finished with 285 on 15 carries.

Karns City 33, Kane 27The lead changed hands three times in the final 6:06 of the District 9 Class AA title game and a 9-yard pass from Tyler Kepple to Dakota Mohney with 12 seconds left lifted the Gremlins to victory. The game-winning drive spanned 65 yards on 14 plays and Karns City converted two fourth downs along the way.
