Homer-happy Knoch tops Ambridge

Mac Megahan belted two home runs, and Dale Gallo and Robert Zanella also homered to power the Knoch baseball team to an 11-7 victory over Ambridge Monday.

The Knights trailed 6-1 through four innings before scoring two in the fifth inning and five more in the sixth inning to take the lead for good.

Megahan, Gallo and Andrew Wirtz each tallied three RBI for Knoch.

• Dylan Bear had three hits, including a double, and four RBI, James Fox had a double, two singles and scored three runs while Andrew Rush and Ryan O'Connor had two RBI apiece as Mars dispatched New Castle, 12-8.

• Eric McCue's two-run homer in the top of the eighth inning powered Karns City to an 8-6 triumph over North Clarion.

Butler's Evan Kowalski knocked off teammate Matt Slamecka 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 in the semifinals of the WPIAL Class AAA Section 2 Tournament Monday at North Allegheny.With the win, Kowalski will face Andrew Marczak of North Allegheny today at the Oxford Athletic Club in the championship match.
