Meridian, EB now 5-1
Meridian improved to 5-1 on the season with a 36-0 blanking of winless Center Township in Butler Area Midget Football League action Saturday at Memorial Park.
Tommy Marzullo got the Raiders on the board with a 44-yard touchdown run, Cameron Kovach adding the conversion run. Kelly Kuharic scored on a 12-yard run to hike the lead to 14-0.
Kuharic scored a second touchdown on a 6-yard run with Zach Henderson adding the conversion run. Marzullo’s 30-yard run increased the lead to 28-0. Mikey Vought scored Meridian’s final touchdown with Kovach adding the conversion run.
East Butler 28, Butler City 24 — Jake Trinkley’s 40-yard touchdown run got East Butler (5-1) on the scoreboard, Brandon Hilderbrand adding the conversion. Butler City (2-4) answered as Ethan Hicks scored on a 21-yard burst.Tyler Coppersmith’s 1-yard scoring run gave Butler City a 12-8 lead, but Hilderbrand responded with a 43-yard TD run and he caught a conversion pass afterward. Hilderbrand scored again on a 3-yard run to give East Butler a 22-12 lead.Coppersmith scored on another 1-yard run to cut the gap to 22-18, only to see Trinkley race 54 yards for a touchdown and a 28-18 East Butler advantage.Hicks concluded the scoring with an 11-yard touchdown run with 10 seconds remaining.
Playoff schedule — The junior varsity playoffs begin Saturday at Memorial Park with East Butler facing Center Township at 1 p.m., followed by Butler City vs. Meridian at 3 p.m.The varsity playoffs commence at 5:30 p.m. as Butler City plays East Butler again and Center Township goes up against Meridian. All games will be at Memorial Park.The BAMFL championship games will be Oct. 22 at Art Bernardi Stadium.
