BUTLER TWP — The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department will host events this week at Alameda Park, 184 Alameda Park Road.

School Daze will feature private and home schools Monday at Alameda Waterpark. Students will receive half-off admission by wearing clothing with their school name or logo or by presenting school identification. Different schools are featured weekly.

The free Family Summer Concert Series will feature the Kittanning Community Band at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Odd Fellows Gazebo.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University’s Government Contracting Assistance Center will host “Federal Government Contracting Seminar for Veteran-Owned Business from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at VA Butler Healthcare.

The free seminar will provide guidance to veteran and service-disabled veteran-owned businesses interested in federal contracting opportunities.

[naviga:h3]Library plans genealogy event[/naviga:h3]

ZELIENOPLE — The Zelienople Public Library, 227 S. High St., will have a genealogy lock-in from 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 12.

During the event, all levels of genealogy enthusiasts can use the library’s ancestry.com subscription and other resources.

Genealogist Susan Ennis, library staff and advanced club members will help searchers navigate the sites and answer questions.

Participants may take laptops or tablets or use library equipment.

The genealogy club will have its regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 28. Meetings are free and open to all.

[naviga:h3]‘Moraine’ author will discuss book [/naviga:h3]

ZELIENOPLE — Polly Shaw, the author of “Moraine State Park,” will be at the Zelienople Public Library, 227 S. High St., at 6:30 Aug. 14 to talk about her book.

Copies of the book will be available to purchase. The program is free.
