New Castle man charged for alleged drug possession

Taser deployed after man fled

A New Castle man was arrested and charged Monday for allegedly selling drugs in the city.

Brandon K. Fairtrace, 26, was charged by city police with felony possession with intent to sell as well as misdemeanors of possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest.

After his arraignment, Fairtrace was placed in Butler County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bond.

Police were called to a domestic incident shortly before midnight Sunday on Mercer Street in Butler.

The investigating officer said he saw a fellow officer speaking with those involved in the domestic dispute when an object was tossed across the street in front of him.

“A male on the sidewalk picked up an item and began walking away from the area,” the officer said.

Police said they stopped the man, identified as Fairtrace, to inquire about the thrown object, but Fairtrace tried to push his way past the officer who stopped him.

“This male passively resisted sitting down on the ground,” the officer said.

The officer stated he pulled out handcuffs to detain the man, but a backpack he was wearing was in the way.

“As I moved the backpack aside, this male took the opportunity to stand up” and started to run away, the officer said.

Police said a Taser was deployed, and Fairtrace was arrested shortly afterward.

Once in custody, police allegedly found about 274 grams of suspected marijuana and 10 stamp bags of suspected heroin.

A preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled.
