Gibson earns D-9 honor
CLARION — Karns City senior forward LeeAnn Gibson has been named D9Sports.com District 9 Girls Basketball Player of the Year.
Gibson, a Slippery Rock University recruit, averaged 16.8 points, 10.2 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.6 assists per game this season. She led the Gremlins to a 24-3 record and third consecutive district championship.
Karns City teammate Emily Hegedus, a sophomore guard, joins Gibson on the all-district first team. She averaged 17 points, five rebounds and 3.2 assists per game.
Redbank Valley's Brooke Hinderliter, another SRU recruit, made first team after averaging a district-leading 22 points per game. She also averaged 8.3 rebounds per contest.
Four other area players earned all-district honors. A-C Valley sophomore Ellie Thompson and Moniteau's Kristina DeMatteis made second team. Thompson averaged 16.4 points and 5.6 rebounds per game while DeMatteis averaged 15.6 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3.3 steals per game.
Moniteau's Alazia Greaves and Union's Lexey Shick made third team. Greaves averaged 14 points and 4.2 rebounds per game, Shick 14.8 points, 4..9 steals and 4.4 assists per contest.
