Police accuse 4 of theft

Number of charges growing

Another police department has accused an out-of-state foursome of stealing catalytic converters.

Slippery Rock police on Monday charged the following with theft and other charges: Demetrius K. Williams, 21, and Kelvin D. Williams, 25, both of Detroit, along with Jordan R. Klinefelter, 22, and Myracle D. Hall, 20, both of Roseville, Mich.

Police allege the four defendants on Nov. 21 stole the catalytic converters from two sport utility vehicles parked in the same parking lot in the borough.

Investigators said it appeared the pollution control devices had been cut off, possibly by a grinder or a reciprocating saw. Total damage was estimated at nearly $1,720.

Slippery Rock police charged all four suspects with two counts each of theft and criminal mischief and one count of receiving stolen property, all misdemeanors.

Senior District Judge Pete Shaffer arraigned Kelvin Williams and Klinefelter, setting each of their bonds at $25,000. Demetrius Williams and Hall have not been arrested in the case.

The charges are the latest to be filed against the four defendants, who are suspected of traveling to Pennsylvania to steal catalytic converters, according to investigators.

It is not uncommon for thieves to target the devices, authorities said, which are typically sold to scrap metal dealers, who buy them for the small amount of precious metals, such as platinum, that are in them.

Slippery Rock University police charged Kelvin and Demetrius Williams, Klinefelter and Hall on Jan. 19 with the Nov. 21 theft of catalytic converters from three vehicles parked at Slippery Rock University's East Lake parking lot in Slippery Rock Township.

All are charged with three felony counts each of theft and receiving stolen property.

Kelvin Williams and Klinefelter were arraigned, and arrest warrants were issued for Demetrius Williams and Hall on those charges.

Cranberry Township police last fall charged the four defendants in connection with the Nov. 21 theft of four catalytic converters from vehicles parked at stores on Route 19.

Both Williamses and Klinefelter were arraigned on 10 felony charges, including corrupt organizations, conspiracy and theft. Their cases are pending in Butler County court.

In the same case, Cranberry police obtained an arrest warrant for Hall, who is charged with seven felonies, including corrupt organizations and conspiracy. Police have an arrest warrant for her.

Kelvin Williams and Klinefelter have been in the county prison since Nov. 24 and Dec. 28, respectively, in connection with the charges.

According to court records, Demetrius Williams was released from the county prison Dec. 12 after posting $25,000 bail.
