Suspect charged with child luring
Saxonburg police have arrested a Butler County man accused of trying to lure two teenage girls into his vehicle on Saturday.
Police said Scott F. Miller, 56, of Saxonburg is facing two counts of child luring, a first degree felony, after being arrested Tuesday afternoon.
Miller's arrest comes days after two 14-year-old girls reported being approached by a man in an SUV on West Main Street in Saxonburg, at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
Saxonburg Police Chief Joe Beachem said Tuesday that the department's investigation determined that Miller approached the girls and started by asking their names. When the girls gave him false names and began to move away, police said, Miller followed them for a short time before reengaging with them in the parking lot of Saxonburg Library on Main Street. In the lot, Beachem said, Miller asked the girls where they were from and “if they wanted to have a good time.”
Beachem said the man never exited his vehicle during his contact with the girls.
When the girls declined, Miller became “very insistent,” Beachem said, and they ran from him “a short distance” and used cell phones to call their parents.
Police said that Miller had been taken to Butler County Prison and was scheduled to be arraigned on the charges before District Judge David Kovach, via video conference.
