Schlegel reaches 1,000 points
Mars senior Zach Schlegel surpassed the 1,000-point mark Saturday as the Planets cruised to a 74-47 boys basketball victory at Knoch.
Schlegel scored 15 points in the contest, giving him 1,005 for his career. He sank three treys. Chris Dvorak led the once-beaten Planets with 18 points. Austin Cote added 14 and Tasso Sfanos 10.
Ryan Lang scored 32 points for Knoch, hitting four 3-pointers along the way.

Swimming
Slippery Rock’s girls improved to 11-0 on the season with a 116-53 triumph over Oil City. The Rocket boys slipped to 2-9 with a 116-22 loss.
Natalie Double won the 200-yard freestyle and 100 back stroke for the Rockets while Mollie Massella won the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly, Gracie Olshanski the 50 and 100 freestyle, Maddie Gauselman the 500 free and Anne-Katherie Burns the 100 breast stroke
Connor Wallace won the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly for Slippery Rock’s boys.
Indoor Track
Butler’s CJ Singleton shattered the school record in the 800 meters at a meet Sunday at Kent State University. His time of 1 minute, 53.64 seconds is the top time in the state this season and broke the old record of 1:56.23, set by Evan Gomez in 2011.
Singleton now owns the school indoor records in the 800, 1,600, 3,000 and 3,200 meters.
Guinness Brown won the 200 meters in 22.9 seconds and anchored Butler’s mile relay team with Brayden Young, Presley Ornelas and Singleton. That quartet lowered its own school record by two seconds, running a 3:24.97.
Brown also anchored the 4x200 relay, which matched its own school record of 1:31.12, fastest time in the state.
Other Golden Tornado winners were the 4x800 relay team of Ryder Kriley, Drew Griffith, Sage Vavro and Singleton with an 8:03.21, second fastest time in the state. Tristan McGarrah won the pole vault with a vault of 14 feet, 6 inches.
Other top Butler marks were Tyler Rekich and Luke Campbell tying for second in the high jump at 5-10, Young taking fourth in the long jump (20-9), Ryan Bernardi fifth in the pole vault (12-0) and Ornelas sixth in the 60 hurdles (8.72).
Slippery Rock’s Seaton Wozniak traveled to Edinboro to compete in a TSTCA meet and won the shot put. His throw of 54 feet, 1 inch, reset his own school record and places him fourth in the state.
