A Butler man, who was stabbed by his wife during a domestic incident and then refused to leave the police station, will be heading to court after the cases against him were bound over during a preliminary hearing Monday.

Aaron T. Moyers, 40, also found himself headed back to jail after his bond was revoked.

Charges of misdemeanor simple assault, possession of drug paraphernalia, defiant trespass and summary public drunkenness against Moyers were bound over by District Judge William Fullerton following a preliminary hearing Monday morning.

Fullerton then revoked Moyers' previous $10,000 bond, which was posted Thursday, and set new bond at $25,000, after police said they will be filing another assault case against Moyers that involved his wife, in violation of the no contact provision of his previously established bond.

That case was not filed as of press time Monday.

Moyers, who represented himself during the proceeding, will face formal arraignment in Butler County Court June 26.

He was initially charged after an incident police said occurred around 4 a.m. May 2 at an apartment in the 300 block of North Main Street.

Butler police Lt. Anthony Fatta testified during the hearing that officers responded to the home for a report of a stabbing and found Moyers lying in the hallway of the third floor of the building, with a wound to his chest that required medical attention. Moyers was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital by Butler Ambulance Service.

Fatta said Moyers' wife reported that he “was on a drug binge for several days” funded by a $6,500 settlement he won. No information on that settlement was presented in court Monday.

That binge led to Moyers becoming argumentative and smashing several items in the apartment before becoming physically violent, police said.

“She related that she attempted to go to sleep on a mattress on the living room floor and Mr. Moyers continued arguing before kicking her in the head,” he said.

Fatta testified it was at this point that Moyers' wife grabbed a kitchen knife for self-defense. While the woman was holding the knife, Moyers became irate and charged at her, running into the knife, he said.

Officers recovered the knife in the living room, according to court documents. In the same room, suspected drug contraband, including 10 empty stamp bags, a marijuana pipe and two crack pipes belonging to Moyers were allegedly found, police said.

Following his release from the hospital, police said Moyers showed up at the station on West New Castle Street around 6:23 a.m., allegedly intoxicated, and attempted to report his vehicle stolen. He was there despite being told to stay away, according to court documents, after officers during that same shift had dealt with him on two other occasions, police said.

When officers advised him that his wife had the vehicle, he then attempted to report money stolen, Fatta testified. Police, however, told Moyers they knew he “hadn't even been home yet to know if any money was stolen,” documents said.

He was then told to leave the station and not to return, when he allegedly became argumentative, refused to leave and pushed the 911 service box outside the building several times.

Moyers asserted that he was medicated from the medical treatment, and “assumed my wife was arrested because she stabbed me” which is why he went to the station.

“I'm really not a threat to anyone,” Moyers said. “I actually got hurt man. I thought I showed restraint.”
