Transit authority approves electric supplier contract

The Butler Transit Authority on Tuesday approved a three-year contract for electric service with a new supplier.

Authority board members unanimously voted to award the contract to IGS, which offered a lower rate than the current contractor, Direct Energy.

IGS will charge the authority 4.65 cents per kilowatt hour for most operations and 4.3 cents for the park and ride on Route 528.

Direct Energy's proposal was 4.83 cents for most operations and 6.62 cents for the park and ride.

In other business, the authority approved a one-year extension of the warranty for the security cameras on the authority's 12 buses.

The warranty through TSI video was extended at a cost of $6,460.

The authority also hired Martin's Cleaning Enterprises of Butler at a cost of $399 a month to clean the transit center on Hollywood Drive and the bus terminal on West New Castle Street in Butler twice a month.
