Supporting those who serve and their families
The Butler Eagle published a nice article on the Butler County Law Enforcement Officers Association, “Law enforcement officers gather to talk projects,” (Dec. 8, Page 19). I would like to thank the Eagle, and the writer personally, for the article.
It was a pleasure to serve the people of Butler County and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for 25 years as a law enforcement officer.
During my watch from 1967 through 1992, and all my years in retirement, we have only lost one police officer in the line of duty, Greg Adams. I have, however, experienced the loss of fellow officers throughout the Commonwealth in my time as an officer. These tragedies bring immeasurable trauma to the surviving family.
By forming the 100-Club, the BCLOEA hopes to raise enough money to be able to present a check to the surviving spouse, or next of kin, the day after the tragedy occurs. Hopefully, we will never have to spend the money, but if we do, it will cushion the financial, physical and mental trauma facing the family of the slain officer. The 100-Club will compensate the family of a police officer, deputy sheriff, corrections officer or constable killed in the line of duty in Butler County.
Membership in the 100-Club is not limited to members of the BCLOEA, any person, or business may contribute $100 or more and all money collected is reserved for the express purpose of easing the pain of the loss if that can be done. If you want more information on the 100-Club, ask any Butler County officer, active or retired, or contact our secretary/treasurer by mail P.O. Box 192, Lyndora, PA 16045.
