Hot dogs, arts and crafts, games and prizes — all fueled by a community effort supporting a wonderful cause — made for a great day in Rotary Park in Butler's Island neighborhood during the 3rd annual Kids Day event hosted by Action in Recovery.

“It's about bringing unity back to the community,” said Jason Beckwith, founder of Action in Recovery. “We have about 100 volunteers, hundreds from the community, It's just a nice thing. ”

The event aims to strengthen the Island neighborhood by promoting community. It also enables adults in recovery to enjoy some fellowship and support while their children are playing and just being kids. Beckwith's nonprofit organizes activities and service projects to help people in recovery become more active in the community. Kids Day is just one of several meant to bring people together, highlight success stories and build better relationships.

Activities on Saturday included basketball, corn hole, rock painting, sand art and children's games. Robin Grubor said she came out with her toddler to support her friends and the community. She said Kids Day helps show how people are working together to better their community.

“It takes us back to our roots and brings us all together,” said volunteer Jamie Goehring. “You have volunteers here representing all aspects of recovery.”

The Butler Drug and Alcohol Program, city police and fire departments and the Butler County commissioners support AIR and came out to help Saturday.
