Vo-tech refinances 2010 bonds from school renovation

The Butler County Area Vocational-Technical School joint operating committee is expecting to reap a $480,000 savings from refinancing bonds issued in 2010.

The committee is refinancing the $6,695,000 in remaining principal from bonds that were used to finance a school renovation project that year, said Regina Hiler, executive director.

She told the committee Thursday that the refinancing is expected to generate $480,000 in savings. The refinancing is scheduled to close April 7.

In other business, the committee approved three contracts for a new phone system.

A $22,840 contract with PrismWorks Technology includes the purchase of phones, conference phones, servers and gateways needed for the project as well as the software and licenses needed. The agreement includes installation, customization and training.

A contract with NexVortex for $199 a month covers the purchase of new trunk lines needed for the project, and a $214 per month contract with Consolidated Communications is for the purchase of business access lines.

The committee also voted to rescind four anti-harassment policies that are outdated due to changes in law, Hiler said.

Those policies have been replaced with a Title IX nondiscrimination policy for all education programs and activities.
