Amanda Simpson, daughter of Jerry and Connie Simpson of Callery has been accepted to the University of Pittsburgh with conditional admission to the university's school of pharmacy in 2006.

A 2004 graduate of Seneca Valley High School, Simpson recently received the 2004 Sam Walton Community Scholarship, the Pittsburgh Building Trade Scholarship, the Pennsylvania Association of Community Bankers Scholarship Award, the Evans City Lions Club Scholarship, the 2004 Ruth Varner Otto Scholarship and the Edward J. Clarke Memorial Scholarship from the National Association of Postmaster.

Maria Lutz, daughter of Larry and Judy Lutz of Sarver, recently received the Heritage Scholarship from Denison University.A 2004 graduate of Freeport High School, she was active in soccer, basketball, softball and the National Honors Society. She served as a captain for the soccer and basketball teams.Lutz was named to Who's Who Among American High School Students and the Children's Hospital Committee and received the Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Award.She also participated in the 2003 all WPIAL team in soccer, AAU basketball and the A-K Valley Cager Classic Basketball Team.Lutz will attend Denison University this fall. She plans to play basketball and major in education.

Julie Hranica, daughter of Edward and Donna Hranica of Sarver, was recently selected for membership in the National Society of High School Scholars.The organization provides scholarships, networking, and events that encourage academic excellence.A junior at Freeport High School, she is the vice president of the Key Club and a member of the distinguished honor roll, the children's hospital committee and the soccer team.Active in school musicals and plays, she was also named to Who's Who Among American High School Students.Hranica also competes in the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science, where she has won first place awards at regional and state competitions over the last four years.
