3 arrested in Butler drug raid
A couple landed in jail after county drug officers, city police and sheriff’s deputies searched their Butler apartment Monday and found suspected crack cocaine, heroin and marijuana, authorities said.
Peter J. Crawford Jr., 34, and Anna E. Scott, 47, are both accused of felony and misdemeanor drug possession. Both admitted to drug trafficking, said county Detective Tim Fennell, who heads the Butler County Drug Task Force.
The defendants’ arrests followed a task force investigation that culminated in a search warrant being served at their apartment on Third Avenue just after 6 a.m.
Crawford, Scott and Mickey L. Blystone, 47, of Butler were at the home when the task force, aided by Butler police and the county sheriff’s office, showed up warrant in hand, authorities said.
The search turned up about 1.2 grams of crack allegedly wrapped for sale in “baggie corners,” Fennell said.
Officers also seized 19 stamp bags of heroin and about 9 grams of marijuana individually packaged in baggie corners that were hidden inside a fake can of shaving cream, according to court documents.
Also taken in the search, Fennell said, was a digital scale, other packaging materials, $172 in currency, three cell phones and a surveillance camera that monitored the comings and goings at the rear door.
Butler police Lt. Michael Dalcamo and Sgt. William Mayhugh, both also members of the task force, later interviewed Crawford and Scott.
“Both gave corroborating statements admitting that they have been selling drugs for approximately the last six months to make some money but they do not use drugs,” documents said.
Officers arrested the defendants, who were arraigned on three counts each of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance, and charges of conspiracy and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Additionally, Crawford was wanted on a bench warrant for missing an enforcement hearing in February stemming from a 2001 burglary conviction. He and Scott are in the Butler County Prison on $50,000 and $25,000 bail, respectively.
Blystone, meanwhile, also was found to be wanted on a bench warrant issued last month after he failed to appear for a Butler County Court hearing in a misdemeanor drug possession case.
He, too, is in the county prison on the warrant.
