Convicted shoplifter accused of taking jug of milk

Ronald Doctor

A jug of milk landed a suspected shoplifter behind bars.

Butler police arrested Ronald Lee Doctor, 56, of Butler on Sunday on a felony arrest warrant in connection with the alleged theft last month at the Dollar General store on North Main Street.

Because Doctor has more than two prior shoplifting convictions, under state law he is charged with a felony count of retail theft. District Judge Sue Haggerty arraigned him on the charge, and he was later placed in the Butler County Prison on $500 bond.

Police said they were called to the store Jan. 25 for the reported shoplifting. A surveillance video, according to charging documents, showed the suspect place a jug of milk down the front of his pants and leave the store without paying for the $2.90 item.

An officer reviewed the video footage and recognized Doctor as the suspect, police said.

Police obtained the arrest warrant for him Feb. 4.

Court documents showed the defendant has at least seven previous convictions for retail theft.
