KARNS CITY — The vacancy on the Karns City School Board was filled Monday night by Parker resident Charlie Johns.

Johns fills the vacancy left by Robert Stiehler, a school director who resigned Sept. 12 due to other work commitments. Stiehler served on the board for two years and eight months, according to Deana Turner, the board secretary and director of business affairs.

On Monday night, the school board members heard from five applicants for the position, according to Superintendent Eric Ritzert, and the board voted unanimously to appoint Johns.

Johns’ appointment fills Stiehler’s term that expires in December 2017.

As a lifetime resident of the area and a 10-year resident of the district, Johns said he is excited to serve the district’s residents and to look out for the best interest of the children.

As the director of the Butler County Children and Youth Agency, Johns said he brings organizational skills and budgeting knowledge to the district.

“I wanted to bring my skills and experience to our school board because I feel it’s time for me to start contributing more to our local community,” he said. “I feel that some of my perspectives would be appreciated by the board and the district.”

Johns has two children in the district, one in fourth grade and one in seventh.
