Butler police are looking for an unknown middle-aged man in connection with a strong-armed robbery at a city grocery store last week.

There were several onlookers at Friedman’s supermarket on West Brady Street but no one was injured in the robbery shortly before 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The robber, who apparently did not have a weapon, made off with about $200 that he plucked out of a cash register. Butler police Deputy Chief David Adam said Monday that there are no suspects.

The crook is described as white, in his 50s or 60s, with short white hair and between 5 feet, 9 inches and 5 feet, 11 inches tall. He was wearing eyeglasses, a blue and white stripped shirt and blue jeans.

There were a number of customers in the store when the man walked in and made his way to one of the checkout aisles where a male cashier was working. None of the patrons recognized the man.

“He reached in and grabbed the money from the register,” Adam said of the robber. “He then ran outside.”

The suspect was last seen running toward the nearby YMCA on North Washington Street.

The incident was possibly captured on surveillance footage and Adam said police are waiting to review the video.
