Taser used by police in arrest
Butler police said they Tasered a man last week after he scuffled with an officer during an altercation that apparently started with an argument over noodles.
Police said Brian H. Sharpe, 27, who has no known address, was arrested on a bench warrant after he was hit by the Taser and fell to the ground Thursday morning on the 200 block of South Church Street. He also faces new charges stemming from the latest incident.
Multiple calls for a man screaming around 8:30 a.m. sent police to a home, where officers found him yelling in the backyard. Police said it was unclear why Sharpe was there, but he was involved in an argument with a “school age” person.
He was upset, according to charging documents, “that the other party had his noodles.” Police said the suspect at one point yelled “if he could have his noodles, he would leave.”
When officers discovered there was a warrant for the defendant, they tried to arrest him. But he pulled away, police said, took an “aggressive stance” and began to scuffle with an officer.
Another officer warned Sharpe to stop before he deployed his Taser, striking the defendant. Police said they subsequently arrested Sharpe without further incident.
He was taken to Butler County Prison and committed on the warrant. Later that day, he was arraigned on a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest and a summary charge of disorderly conduct.
He remains in the prison on $5,000 bond while awaiting his preliminary hearing scheduled for Feb. 24. Online court records did not list an attorney for him.
