Forbes breaks Y swim records

Camryn Forbes set fiveteam records and took part in two others recently as the Butler YMCA swim team competed at the 51st annual University of Pittsburgh Christmas meet.

Forbes won the girls age 14 200-yard backstroke in a record time of two minutes, 5:25 seconds. She placed second in the 100 back with a record time of 58.61 seconds and third in the 200 individual medley with a record time of 2:10.96.

She placed seventh in the 200 freestyle with a record time of 1:56.58 and fifth in the 100 freestyle with a record time of 53.95 seconds. Forbes placed second in the 500 freestyle.

Forbes also teamed with Abbie Jones, Meredith Cummings and Jill McElhaney to set team records in the medley and freestyle relays. Those relays placed fourth and second, respectively.

Laura Goettler set a pair of team marks in the age 10 100 individual medley (2nd, 1:07.63) and 100 free (4th, 1:00.63). Goettler was also second in the 200 IM.

Other placers in the meet for Butler included David Bocci, 10, fifth in 200 freestyle; Taylor Campbell, 17, seventh in 100 breaststroke; Noah Donovan, 16, 12th in 200 butterfly and Alex Wigton, 14, eighth in 100 breaststroke.

Forbes, Donovan and Campbell posted qualifying times for the YMCA National Swimming Championships in Greensboro, N.C., in April.

The Pitt Christmas meet was attended by over 1,400 swimmers from across the United States.
