Budget includes surplus

Seven Fields taxes stay same

SEVEN FIELDS — Borough council recently passed the 2015 budget that includes a $60,000 surplus with no property tax increase.

Borough manager Tom Smith said the tax rate will remain at 7 mills, the same rate it has been for the past several years. Council passed the $1.28 million budget by unanimous vote.

Seven Fields will have a surplus next year in part because of the creation of a new regional police force with Evans City.

Smith said Seven Fields paid more than $366,000 to neighboring Cranberry Township this year for police coverage, a contractual agreement that ends Dec. 31.

Seven Fields expects to spend about $315,000 on police services next year after the new regional police department with Evans City comes into existence Jan. 1.

Smith said he’s pleased with the conservative approach council took for the 2015 budget.

“The 2015 budget reflects no tax increase in any budgetary area with a continued commitment of both council members and Mayor Giannotta to provide the highest quality of local government services for Seven Fields residents,” he said Monday.

Smith added that the budget contains no fee increases for swimming pool memberships or community center rentals for residents.
