Memorial motorcycle ride dedicated to officer
ZELIENOPLE — Sunday’s Brotherhood Memorial Ride saw a successful turnout, organizers said.
The ride, hosted by the Harmony Fire District, saw more than 200 motorcycles and 250 people take to the roads, traveling about 80 miles total from Zelienople to Grove City and back.
About $7,000 was raised, ride co-founder Ian Walker said.
“This year was a great success. It was one of our better turnouts,” Walker said.
The ride was previously hosted by the Zelienople Volunteer Fire Department, which has merged with the Harmony Volunteer Fire Department.
The ride is dedicated to Kristine Bartman, an Evans City-Seven Fields Regional Police Department patrolman who died in July in a motorcycle crash in Pittsburgh.
An undisclosed amount of money raised from the ride will benefit her husband to help with funeral expenses and other costs.
Proceeds will also go toward the fundraising effort to build a memorial skate park in the Zelienople Community Park.
“They (proceeds) are going to go to that every year until that fund is satisfied,” ride co-founder Josh Rader said previously.
The skate park is planned in honor of Trevor Barkley, Sam Bucci and Elijah Lunsford, three young men who died in a crash in 2010.
They were also volunteer firefighters.
A picnic, raffle and live entertainment was provided after the ride.
“We hope to see everyone back next year,” Walker said.
