BUTLER TWP — Township police are trying to reunite old pictures and other family memorabilia from Pittsburgh with their owners, years after the items were recovering during an investigation into a series of burglaries.

The case was solved years ago, police said, but the last remaining items recovered during the investigation have been sitting in the department’s evidence lockup since 2012.

Lt. Matt Pearson said the items were found in Lyndora in 2012, in a storage shed that contained other items connected to a spree of burglaries committed by Doug Wetzel.

Most of the items, recovered during the investigation were returned to victims, Pearson said, but those that remained included paper records, old pictures and other memorabilia that would have been of no value to a burglar.

Det. Justin Welton, who is heading up the effort, said that most of the items have Pittsburgh-area addresses on them.
