Kenneth Battin
Kenneth Edward “Ken” Battin, 89, of Meadville, Pa., passed away peacefully in his sleep early Friday, Oct. 30, 2026.
Ken was born March 6, 1937, in Saegertown, Pa., and spent much of his life in Meadville with his beloved wife of 54 years, Janet, who preceded him in death in 2010.
Ken graduated from Saegertown High School in 1955, where he earned varsity letters in football, baseball and basketball all four years. As a freshman at Edinboro State Teachers College, he competed in the Erie Dispatch Golden Gloves Tournament. The southpaw middleweight scored a pair of knockouts and a technical knockout.
The following year, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served two years at Camp Lejeune with his new bride, Janet, by his side.
For many years, Ken was the general manager of Weber Harris Ford Lincoln Mercury in Meadville and contributed his time to many activities, including the junior golf program at the Meadville Country Club. He enjoyed his retirement in Gibsonia, surrounded by his family for more than two decades.
Above all, Ken was an amazing father. He never missed an opportunity to attend his children’s activities and would often show up at their practices unannounced. His belief in old-fashioned values, coupled with the love and loyalty of his wife, Janet, helped build an incredibly close family. He was a lifelong Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan, who loved baseball and football, as well as golfing with friends.
Ken is survived by his four children, Bill (Maureen) Battin, of Mars; Jeffrey Battin, of Ambridge, Pa.; Dr. John (Christine) Battin, of Morgantown, W.Va.; and Jill (Nick) Zoria, of Cranberry Township. He is also survived by his loving brother, Gary Acker (Linda) of Rochester, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren, Adam, Ryan, Connor, Alyssa, Sean, Nicholas, Alec, Alexander, Kienan and Michael; and eight great-grandchildren, with another on the way.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, Frank Battin and Leanore (Hatfield) Acker; his stepfather, Nevin Acker, who lovingly raised him; and his siblings, Robert Battin, Richard Battin and Darlene Acker Bowersox.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
Ken will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Janet, at Greendale Cemetery in Meadville.
