PennDOT, state police urge driving sober during Labor Day

PennDOT and state police are urging Pennsylvanians to celebrate responsibly ahead of the Labor Day holiday on Monday, Sept. 7, as a national crackdown of impaired driving is ongoing.

According to a news release from the agencies, state and municipal police are conducting impaired driving enforcement details as part of an enforcement and education campaign.

The state also uses 250 drug recognition experts, officers trained to look for impaired drivers, to help identify drivers impaired by illegal drugs, prescription medication or combinations of substances.

State troopers made 538 DUI arrests and investigated 60 impaired-driving related crashes — three of which were fatal — throughout the 2025 Labor Day holiday weekend.
