A 19-year-old boy suffered a shattered pelvis, collapsed lung and a fractured spine when he was run over by a U-Haul truck, according to a GoFundMe for him.

Dominic Nelson was run over by a U-Haul truck Monday evening, July 20, on Carol Drive in Saxonburg, according to Saxonburg police. A GoFundMe for Nelson has raised $2,300 in its first three days.

“The extent of Dominic’s injuries means he faces a long and difficult road to recovery with countless medical procedures, hospital stays and ongoing care ahead,” wrote Mackenzie Schaffer, who organized the GoFundMe.

Nelson also suffered internal bleeding and broken ribs when he was run over. He was flown to an area hospital by StatMedEvac.

Dennis Ellwood Wolff, 74, of Freeport, was charged in the crash with one felony count each of aggravated assault and accident involving injury, and one misdemeanor count each of simple assault and tampering with evidence.

Police said after Wolff hit Nelson, he stopped the truck while Nelson was under it then kept going, hitting him with the rear wheels.

Wolff then drove down the street and got out of the truck, removed Nelson’s hat from the truck’s hood then returned the truck to U-Haul, police said.

“By coming together to support Dominic, we can help ease some of the stress and allow him to focus on getting better rather than worrying about how to pay for his care,” Schaffer said.
