Robert Lee Cararie, 84, of Valencia, died peacefully Monday, June 29, 2026.

He was born in Pittsburgh on Oct. 23, 1941, son of the late Joseph Cararie and Rose Carratura Cararie.

He was the beloved husband, for 57 years, of Gretchen Smith Cararie; loving father of Joseph Cararie (Tina), Anthony Cararie (Caity) and the late Catherine Rose Cararie; brother of Donna DiLeonardo and the late Donald Cararie; and dear grandfather of Michael, Henry, Charles and Richard.

Bob was a 1963 graduate of Penn State University with a degree in civil engineering and earned his master’s degree in engineering from the University of Illinois in 1965. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy honorably serving with the Civil Engineer Corps, including a tour in Vietnam, Chu Lai and Danang. He was a professional engineer for several firms in the Pittsburgh area until his retirement from Tri State Engineering in 2010 and continued to do consulting work until 2016.

Bob was active with the pro-life movement and was a founding member of Pennsylvanians for Human Life, later People Concerned for the Unborn Child. He was a charter member of Knights of Columbus Council 10175 at Holy Sepulcher Parish and was also a Fourth Degree Knight serving in the color guard. He was active with St. Vincent de Paul, Smiling Seniors and the Patzun Mission Group, traveling to Guatemala in 2010.

Bob enjoyed carpentry, remodeling and traveling, both domestic and abroad. In his spare time, he could be found on his computer, learning new skills and teaching and sharing with others. Bob was also involved with his children’s activities, such as Boy Scouts and sporting events. He will be remembered as a very kind person, always offering to lend a hand to friends and family.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Sunnyview Nursing Center for the care and kindness they have shared with Bob.

CARARIE — Family and friends of Robert Lee Cararie, who died Monday, June 29, 2026, will be welcomed from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, at SCHELLHAAS FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 5864 Heckert Road, Bakerstown.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 2, at Holy Sepulcher Church, 1304 E. Cruikshank Road, Butler.

Interment with military honors will follow in Holy Savior Catholic Cemetery.
