Middlesex Township manager to retire Aug. 7
MIDDLESEX TWP — Township manager Jeffrey Winkle will step away from his post on Friday, Aug. 7, after nearly four years on the job.
The township board of supervisors officially accepted his resignation letter at their monthly work session on Wednesday, July 1. Winkle spoke to the Butler Eagle about his intention to retire in May, but had not yet set a firm timeline.
“It’s a great community to be a part of,” Winkle said. “I see a great future for Middlesex Township, and the people have been great to work with. The board (of supervisors), the planning commission, the zoning hearing board and the residents have all been very friendly and great to work with.”
Middlesex Township is currently in the process of interviewing interested candidates for Winkle’s successor as township manager, although Winkle says no decision has been made just yet.
“We’ve received a number of applications and have actually talked to some prospective candidates, but no decision’s been made yet,” Winkle said.
The township website first displayed a job posting for a township manager in mid-May.
Winkle first took the mantle of township manager in October 2022, replacing Adam Hartwig.
The board of supervisors officially approved a conditional use permit for the proposed Pfeifer Farm wedding venue, to be located on a 60-acre parcel along West Cruikshank Road.
The plans brought forward by property owners Alex and Emma Stobert are to transform the barn which currently exists on the property into a venue capable of hosting weddings. According to the venue’s website, the property is named in honor of Alex’s grandfather, Ed Pfeifer, who maintained the property until his death in 2023.
A public hearing was held on the proposed wedding venue at a previous meeting on June 17, when the proposal received mostly positive sentiment from residents who approved of the idea of maintaining the area’s rural character.
