Cooling centers in Butler County offer haven from heat
With Butler County facing extreme heat through Friday, July 3, some organizations have opened their doors to help people get out of the sun.
Butler County Area Agency on Aging and Grapevine Center both announced Tuesday that their facilities will be doubling as cooling centers for the duration of the extreme heat warning.
“Beat the heat and cool down at our Butler County Senior Centers,” the Area Agency on Aging wrote on a Facebook post. The agency runs seven senior centers with varying hours and days.

• Butler Senior Center, 468 S. Duffy Road, Butler Township — 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays
• Cranberry Township Senior Center, 2525 Rochester Road, Cranberry Township — 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays
• Mt. Chestnut Senior Center, 727 W. Old Rt. 422, Franklin Township — 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays
• Slippery Rock Senior Center, 155 Branchton Road, Slippery Rock Township — 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays
• Chicora Senior Center, 117 W. Slippery Rock St., Chicora — 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesdays
• Evans City Senior Center, 426 E. Main St., Evans City — 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursdays
• Winfield Township Senior Center, 200 Brose Road, Winfield Township — 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursdays

The Grapevine Center also shared on Tuesday that it would be extending its hours until Friday, July 3. The extended hours run from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
“Water and light refreshments will be available,” the center wrote on a Facebook post.
