SLIPPERY ROCK TWP — Despite a short delay with opening due to some necessary repairs, the pool at Armco Park is open to swimmers.

Armco Park’s pool opened June 16, 17 days after its planned opening date of May 30.

Jamie Knauff, aquatics and program director for Butler County Family YMCA, said the crew noticed a problem with the pool’s piping shortly after preparations began to reopen the pool for the summer.

They knew once they began reopening for the season the pool would be closed until that work was completed.

“We were scheduled to open in May, so late April or early May, we start the process for opening the pool,” she said.

At the same time, the pool was also able to receive a face-lift through a new coat of paint.

To compensate for the delay, the pool’s season was extended to Aug. 30. For its pool season pass holders, the park is also offering special pass holder nights and early access on Sundays.

“We also have a full concession stand,” Knauff added.

The pool features a splash pad, an area with water features for young children. However, as of June 29, it is closed indefinitely while working to resolve an issue, the park’s Facebook page shared.

Outside of the pool, Knauff said Armco Park aims to offer a variety of activities to community members and YMCA members alike. She emphasized the park is open to the public and the only portion that requires paying is the pool.

“A lot of people thought that (the park) is not open to the public, but it is,” she said.

She said the park includes hiking trails, courts for numerous sports, a playground, shelter rentals and more across around 75 acres.

“I feel like even when it’s full, the park’s still peaceful because it’s so spread out,” Knauff said.

Armco Park’s pool is open 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, weather permitting. Those interested in swimming at Armco Park can either purchase a day pass or a season pass at the YMCA website.

Passes are available for individuals, families up to four people and senior citizens. The pool can also be rented for birthday parties.
