Marie Peterson died Monday, June 15, 2026, at UPMC Shadyside after a short illness. She was 80.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. July 10, at St. Joseph’s Church in Sharon.

She was born in Butler on April 27, 1946. She worked as a radiation technologist until her children were born. She returned to work at Shenango Valley School of Business, then moved on to sell Yellow Pages.

Marie loved doing yard work and being outside. She was a life long Pirates fan and used to go to Forbes Field to watch her beloved Roberto Clemente. She cherished her annual family camping trips at Rocky Gap State Park.

She is survived by her children, Rene (Kim) and Brian Peterson (Lisa); her grandsons, Kyle, Logan and Blake; great-granddaughter Evelyn; her brothers, Dave Moniot (Susan), Gene Moniot (Lily), Charles Moniot (Colleen) and Kenny Moniot; and sister, Irene James (Dave).

She was predeceased by her husband of 33 years, Rick; her sister, Ann Moniot; her brother, Danny Moniot; and her parents, “Sid” and Dorothy Gallagher Moniot.
