Ellwood City man accused of burglary released on unsecured bond

An Ellwood City man accused of kicking in a door and assaulting the homeowner had his bond changed before his Wednesday, June 10, preliminary hearing was rescheduled.

Michael Anthony Roth, 37, was released on a $10,000 unsecured bail before District Judge Joseph Nash. He was charged June 2 with one felony count each of burglary and trespass and one misdemeanor count each of simple assault and disorderly conduct following a June 2 incident in Muddy Creek Township.

Roth’s bail was previously set at $40,000 while he was being held in Butler County Prison. His preliminary hearing has not yet been rescheduled.

Police said they responded the morning of June 2 to a Moraine Drive residence for reports of a burglary. A man at the home said Roth was coming for tools, which the man had left outside for Roth.

Police said Roth had come for the tools and banged on the front door and a window of the home while there. Police said Roth then kicked in the door.

The homeowner told police he pushed Roth back onto the front porch before Roth punched him in the face. Police said he also broke a side mirror of the homeowner’s truck.

Roth is not permitted to have contact with the homeowner.
