Christine B. Hockenberry, 74, of Cherry Township, passed away Friday, May 29, 2026.

She was born June 4, 1951, in Lewistown, Pa., the youngest child of William Wadsworth Hockenberry and Thorene Gertrude (Anderson) Hockenberry.

Christine graduated from Moniteau High School, Class of 1969, and furthered her education at Morehead State University, in Kentucky, where she received her Bachelor of Science in food service administration. She then worked for Stouffer’s and Marriott before returning home in 1988 to work at Moniteau High School.

After her career in food service, she enjoyed many years as a talented florist at Tinker’s Dam in Slippery Rock. She enjoyed crocheting and shared many afghans and hats with others and liked to play cribbage and build puzzles. She collected Wendell August Forge pieces and was an avid Star Trek fan. She loved the company of her beloved dog, Haun, and her porch cats.

She is survived by her siblings, Alice (Michael) Woodring, of Mifflintown, Pa., Bill (Judith) Hockenberry II, of Cherry Township, and Mary (James) Meyer, of Plymouth, Minn.; her nieces and nephews, Julia, Laura, Bill III, Megan, Marcus and Gerald; great-niece, Tiffany; and great-nephew, Blake.

Christine was preceded in death by her parents; her companion, Gary May; and niece, Michele.

HOCKENBERRY — Family and friends of Christine B. Hockenberry, who died Friday, May 29, 2026, will be received from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, at WILLIAM F. YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 132 Main St., West Sunbury.

Graveside services will follow at Slippery Rock Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her family.

The Hockenberry family asks that memorial donations be made in Christine’s honor to UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, Butler, 102 Technology Drive, Suite 110B, Butler, PA 16001, www.upmchillman.com/donate, where Christine donated many crocheted hats for patients.
