Wexford man charged with stalking, recording woman without consent

A Wexford man is facing several charges after police said he hid a camera in a woman’s home.

Richard Joseph Hilderbrand, 32, was charged with felony interception of communications, felony criminal use of communication facilities, misdemeanor stalking and misdemeanor possession of an instrument of crime by Cranberry Township police Thursday, May 21.

Police said they received a call on May 15 from a woman who told police Hilderbrand routinely would sit outside, knock on her windows and even enter her apartment without permission.

According to police, three people were identified to have spoken with Hilderbrand, where he shared images from recordings of the woman’s bedroom, audio recordings of the woman and admitted to placing cameras in and around the woman’s home.

Police obtained search warrants for Hilderbrand and met with him in his driveway on Wednesday. Police said he then admitted to concealing a cellphone and Blink camera in the woman’s bedroom and recording over 27 hours of audio.

According to police, the audio and video files and the camera were recovered. Police also said Hilderbrand bought GPS-based tracking devices he planned to install on the woman’s car.

Hilderbrand’s preliminary hearing is set for 10 a.m. May 29 before District Judge Kevin J. Flaherty. His bail has been set at $15,000.
