No takers for Hotel Saxonburg in sheriff’s sale
No buyers emerged for the Hotel Saxonburg when it went up for a sheriff’s sale Friday, May 15. The lack of a buyer has caused the property’s ownership to revert to Northwest Bank.
A longstanding institution on Saxonburg’s Main Street dating back to 1832, the hotel and restaurant closed its doors in March 2025 due to financial difficulties.
The date for the sheriff’s sale was initially set for Nov. 21, 2025, then delayed to Jan. 16, then delayed a second time to Friday.
When bidding finally opened for the property, there was an opening bid of $4,354.45. This, according to Sgt. Bobbie Jo Walker of the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, was placed by the attorneys acting on behalf of Northwest Bank — the plaintiffs in the sheriff’s sale.
What happens next for the property, according to Walker, is anyone’s guess.
“When it goes back to a bank, the bank can do whatever it wants. When it sells, we're pretty much out of it,” Walker said. “Sometimes they'll put up a for sale sign, but I have no idea what they're going to do with it.”
