Howie Pentony

Pentony

Howie James Pentony, 78, of Prospect, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, with his wife, his best friend and his dog, Joey, by his side.

Howie was born in Kingwood, W.Va., to Joseph and Genevieve Pentony on May 29, 1947.

He is survived by the love of his life, Janey; his son, Andrew; daughter-in-law, Tara; and the cutest grandson in the whole world, Luke. Also surviving is one brother, Jerry, and his family. He was preceded in death by both of his parents.

The night Howie met Janey Snebold Pentony, he told her he was going to marry her and he did just that on May 12, 1990. Whatever successes he enjoyed in life he attributed to the support and counsel of Janey. Janey allowed him to live his life as he wanted, especially when it came to the second love of his life, hunting. He bagged a Boone and Crockett caribou in Alaska and spent much of his life in Canada and the Western U.S. chasing and harvesting elk, mule deer, pronghorns and whitetail. He prepared and consumed everything he bagged and lived to hunt whitetails, estimating that he harvested over 100. Much of Howie’s hunting time was spent in his home state of West Virginia where his friends, Dave and Dawn Milne, of Bruceton Mills, shared their home and farm with him for over 20 years.

Howie was a registered representative in the securities business for 50 years. He owned Pentony Capital Management in Portersville where he managed “OPMs” as he called it, “other people’s money.” He was an active member of the Portersville-Prospect Rotary and a proud supporter of law enforcement, the military and his community. He loved breakfast at Brown’s Country Kitchen and lunch at Ben Franklin’s, but Cala Lily in Gibsonia was his favorite dinner spot.

Howie was most proud of the fact that his clients trusted him with their life savings. They continually told him that and he loved hearing it. He often said it is not difficult to become financially secure. “Work hard, save your money, and invest” was his solution.

Howie will not only be remembered by the lives he touched both personally and professionally, but also by his infectious laughter and unique sarcasm. He leaves behind a lasting legacy in the hearts of all who knew him and will be deeply missed by many for years to come.
