Miller Minutes: ‘We know how to show up and show out’

Miller Minutes

A dress made of film strips, a dress inside of a dress and a body suit made of watches.

This is not the start of a riddle. This is just a taste of some looks worn on the Met Gala red carpet on Monday. The theme was “Costume Art” or “Fashion is Art,” both suited (see what I did?) to the event’s goal of fundraising for the museum’s costume institute.

With “The Devil Wears Prada 2” premiering just last week, fashion is at the forefront of everyone’s mind. The influence of the Met Gala will be passed down noiselessly into our own stores and closets soon enough. Even those with no interest in fashion are influenced by the industry. Take a look around: the low-rise jeans and Juicy Couture that plagued Y2K are back, thanks to the 20-year resurgence cycle.

Butlerites are not immune to the choke hold of certain fashion trends. Does that mean we will be wearing skirts made of film strips anytime soon? I doubt it. Nevertheless, we know how to show up and show out! If you don’t believe me, look at any of those Butler prom photos from last weekend.

That being said, I hope you all will take this weekend to strut your stuff out on the town at any of the events you see below. There are some good ones!
