Police: Man charged in weekend Moraine State Park shooting

A Phoenixville man shot a woman multiple times Saturday, May 2, in Moraine State Park, according to state police in Butler.

Jevonn Jamie Brown, 31, was charged Monday, May 4, with one felony count each of homicide and aggravated assault, and misdemeanor reckless endangerment following the incident Saturday in Muddy Creek Township.

Police said Sunday that the woman’s injuries were not life-threatening. She was transported to Allegheny General Hospital after the incident and was no longer in the hospital Monday.

Police said they were dispatched at 3:19 a.m. Saturday to the Bear Run Road boat launch after Brown called 911.

Brown told police that while he was outside the vehicle and the woman was inside of it, Brown thought he heard the engine “rev,” so he drew his pistol and shot the hood of the vehicle.

Police found the woman in the vehicle had multiple gunshot wounds to her right arm and left wrist.

The woman told police Brown had made her drive to the location in their rented vehicle, and she alleged Brown had attempted to drown her earlier at a different location. She said she attempted to leave prior to the shooting but did not have the car keys.

Police found 10 bullet holes in the driver’s side of the windshield and another five in the hood on the driver’s side. Police found 15 9mm bullet casings at the scene.

A 9mm Glock handgun with a 30-round extended magazine was found in the vehicle, according to police.

Brown is being held in Butler County Prison on a $1.5 million bail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. May 13 before District Judge Joseph Nash.
