Stephen D. “Steve” Kennedy, 57, of Slippery Rock, formerly of Butler, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Monday, April 27, 2026, while under the care of Allegheny General Hospital.

He was born Sept. 23, 1968, in Butler, son of the late Richard D. and Helen L. (Kaufman) Kennedy.

The youngest of five, Stephen was fiercely loved and protected from the start. He was a 1987 graduate of Butler High School, where he created friendships he carried until the very end. Steve worked for the Pennsylvania Turnpike until his retirement in 2019.

In his free time, Stephen enjoyed fishing, listening to rock ‘n’ roll, spending time with his dogs and catching up with his family and friends. Above all else, he loved being with his “babies,” Malia and Tanner. He never missed an opportunity to brag about his children. Steve is remembered for his kind heart, his ability to make every person he met feel special and his unbeatable sense of humor. His laughter was contagious and even in his lowest moments he found a way to make others smile.

Stephen is survived by his children, Malia and Tanner Kennedy. He is also survived by his siblings, Cynthia “Cindy” (Ron) Marowitz, Richard “Rick” (Donna) Kennedy, Thomas “Tom” Kennedy and John (Shelley) Kennedy; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other extended family and countless loving friends.

In addition to his parents, Stephen was preceded in death by his wife, Connie Kennedy, who passed in 2020; a sister-in-law, Suzan (Kochick) Kennedy; as well as several friends whom he worked with for many years.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for the unwavering support and care Stephen received from Allegheny Health Network throughout his journey.

KENNEDY — Friends and family of Stephen D. “Steve” Kennedy, who died Monday, April 27, 2026, will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 8, at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., Butler, PA 16001.

A memorial service to celebrate Steve’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 9, at the funeral home with Pastor Dan Owen, of Harmony-Zelienople Global Methodist Church, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, kindly consider memorial donations in Stephen’s name to Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, to help the family with their costs.
