The results of the Boyers Sportsmen’s Association annual fishing derby
The largest trout of the day caught during the Boyers Sportsmen’s Association annual fishing derby was reeled in by Miranda Pisor.
During the event on Saturday, April 18, more than 100 children participated in fishing at the association’s lake.
The largest fish of the day measured in at 21 and one-fourth inches long. Pisor was gifted a free taxidermy mount of her fish by Schmolls Taxidermy, which donated its services and was the official measurer for the fishing day.
Many of those same children and their families also helped stock the lake on the Thursday before the fishing derby, which the association’s vice president, Jeff Grazier, said has also become a fun tradition for many of the participants.
Grazier said the association buys its fish from Laurel Hill Trout Farm, based in Westmoreland County, and people interested in helping to stock were invited to aid in the dumping.
“They could just pull up to the lake and dump the fish in, but we encourage the community to come in with buckets,” Grazier said. “They were 12 inches up to like 20 inches, they were big trout.”
