First-time turkey competitors win at Butler Farm Show
Two siblings from Valencia won big at their first go at the Butler Farm Show last week in the poultry competition.
Alexandra “Lexi” Park, 12, won Grand Champion Market Turkey; and James Park, 9, won Reserve Grand Champion Market Turkey Tuesday, Aug. 11. They are both first year members of the Butler County 4-H Poultry Club.
The turkeys were hatched in April through the Poultry Club and Lexi and James had been raising them since. The turkeys were sold at auction through the Butler County Junior Livestock Auction on Thursday, Aug. 13, where Lexi’s turkey was auctioned for $5,250. As Reserve Grand Champion, James’ turkey was auctioned second and the winning bid was $3,750.
Lexi and James thanked their club leaders: Jim Williams, Gary Costel and Craig Mitchell, and are already making plans for next year at the Butler Farm Show, according to an email from their father.
