What we know about the couple who died in Seven Fields murder-suicide

A couple died in an apparent murder-suicide early Tuesday morning, April 28, in the area of Graywyck Drive in Seven Fields, according to state police in Butler.

The couple killed in what police called an apparent murder-suicide Tuesday, April 28, in Seven Fields and Cranberry Township was married about 19 months, according to their wedding registry.

Madeline Spatafore, 25, and Ryan Hosso, 26, were married in September 2024 in Wooster, Ohio, according to theknot.com. State police in Butler said Hosso killed his wife and then called his parents to admit to the killing. He then shot himself in a wooded area behind their Graywyck Drive home, police said.

Spatafore was found in the home with multiple gunshot wounds, police said. Hosso’s parents live out of the state, but worked to find his local police department to report the call.

Spatafore had worked in the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital intensive care unit as a neurovascular critical care physician assistant since November 2024, according to her LinkedIn profile.

She graduated summa cum laude from Duquesne University in 2023 with a Master of Physician Assistant Studies and Bachelor of Science in health sciences, according to UPMC. She was a member of the Duquesne University Honors College, Student Association of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, Delta Zeta sorority and multiple honors societies, according to her LinkedIn page.

She graduated from Seneca Valley High School, where she was a member of the varsity soccer team.

Hosso was an applications engineer at BalTec Corporation, based in Canonsburg, according to his LinkedIn page.

“We are shocked and deeply saddened by this tragic event,” said Anthony Gianettino, general manager at BalTec. “We extend our sincerest condolences to the families. Due to the ongoing investigation, we cannot provide further comment at this time.”

Hosso was previously a mechanical engineer at Vavco, based in Pittsburgh. Owner and president Robert Olech said Hosso left the company about three years ago. He worked at the company for less than a year through a temporary employment agency, Olech said.

Property records indicate the Graywyck Drive home where the shooting happened is owned by John and Mishelle Spatafore.

Attempts to reach Duquesne University and Seneca Valley School District were unsuccessful. UPMC declined to provide additional information.
