Edwin Buchert
Edwin Willard Buchert, 90, of Grove City, passed peacefully in Grove Manor on Sunday, April 12, 2026.
Ed was born in Watertown, Wis., on May 19, 1935, to Irwin L. and Helen Frances (Foelker) Buchert.
He was a graduate of Watertown High School in 1953 and University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 1958. Ed earned his Master of Arts and Ph.D., both from the University of Kansas, in 1962 and 1979.
While furthering his education, he taught at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater for six years, where he would meet his future wife. Later, he was a teaching assistant at the University of Kansas while working on his Ph.D.
In 1972, both Ed and his wife, Beverly J. Barton, whom he married Aug. 13, 1966, relocated to Grove City and both began lengthy careers in education in the Slippery Rock area.
Ed taught mathematics at Slippery Rock Area Middle School from 1973 to 1989. At that time, he became an associate professor in the mathematics/education department at Slippery Rock University, remaining there until he and his wife both retired in 2002.
Ed was a member of the United Church of Christ. He was often a guest pianist and organist at North Liberty Presbyterian Church, which he dearly loved and was always happy to do for the congregation.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly J., at home; a brother, Charles H. (Mary) Buchert, of Boulder Junction, Wis.; a sister-in-law, Nancy Buchert, of Beloit, Wis.; and eight nieces and nephews.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Joan Wilke; and a brother, Kay Buchert.
BUCHERT — There will be private family services for Edwin Willard Buchert, who died Sunday, April 12, 2026, with burial at North Liberty Cemetery.
