NWS: Conditions ripe for brush fires Thursday
Fire Risk DME
The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh reports an increased risk of brush fires for western Pennsylvania on Thursday, April 9, according to a post to its Facebook page.
The combination of low humidity and breezy winds make brush fires more common, the weather service said.
Humidity during the day is expected to in the lower 30s and upper 20s percentiles, which will make outdoor fuels such as trees, grass and wood dry enough for possible ignition, a spokesperson said.
Temperatures will creep into the 70s today after being cold and dry the past few days, the spokesperson said. Wind speeds will be around 15-18 mph, which is just enough to carry embers and additional oxygen and create more dryness.
