Mars Borough picks Rave Alert as emergency alert option

MARS — Borough council announced it has opted for the Rave Alert system from Motorola as its new municipal emergency alert notification system at a council meeting on Monday night, April 6.

Rave Alert will replace Mars’ previous emergency alert vendor, CodeRED, a public alert system which could send notifications of local emergencies to residents who opted in by sending their cellphone number.

Mars’ neighbor and potential future merger partner, Adams Township, currently uses Rave Alert. Residents of that township can receive emergency alert notifications, traffic alerts and township event information through the system by text, email or phone call.

The borough chose to replace CodeRED after the vendor was struck by a ransomware attack in November 2025. Butler County also previously used CodeRED, until replacing it earlier this year with a different system called Regroup.

Both Rave Alert and Regroup were potential candidates for a replacement solution for Mars, as noted in a February borough council meeting.

Although borough council President G. Michael Fleming said an agreement is already in place to implement Rave Alert, the borough still had to formally sign the contract with the provider as of Monday night.
