Paced by Kaden Dreher’s two hits — including a triple — and Cooper Allison’s home run, the Knights’ baseball team won its seventh straight on Thursday, downing Mars 5-3.
Knoch improves to 7-1 on the season.
Danny Murray had a double, a triple and two RBIs for the Planets (2-4).
Seneca Valley 7, Central Catholic 5 — Luis Torrenegra had a pair of hits and an RBI and Micah Olayer and Danny Drennan both had an extra-base knock and two RBIs apiece for the Raiders in WPIAL Section 1-6A action.
Seneca Valley (5-4, 1-2) got six innings out of Parker Mell on the mound. He allowed three earned runs and sat four down on strikes.
North Hills 3, Butler 1 — The Golden Tornado only mustered three hits and waited until the sixth inning to dent the scoreboard in the WPIAL Section 1-6A defeat.
Blake Scott pitched 3.2 innings for Butler (5-2, 2-1), allowing five hits, two runs — one earned — and striking out two. The Golden Tornado visit North Allegheny on Tuesday.
Redbank Valley 2, Karns City 0 — Five different Gremlins batters banged out a hit, but Karns City couldn’t get on the scoreboard in the loss.
Addison Burrows, Nicole Huff, Ronni Radaker, Jessica Rodgers, Addison Fox and Lily Neff all drove in at least one base runner as Karns City put away Redbank Valley 11-1 in five innings.
Burrows went the distance in the circle, allowing one earned run, striking out eight and walking one.
Despite Andrew Slaughenhoupt’s 13 kills and Maddox McCall’s 15 digs, Butler fell to North Allegheny in straight sets, by scores of 26-24, 25-17 and 25-16.
The Golden Tornado falls to 6-2 on the season, with a 1-2 mark in section competition. They host Hempfield on Monday night.
Drew Ross fired in six goals and assisted on six more as Freeport dispatched Avonworth 22-4. Brayden Riddell and Owen Close added three goals each, while Jameson Micelli, Brock Edwards and Gabe Lichtenfels had two apiece.
Mackenzie Powell scored the Mars’ lone touchdown as it lost 48-6 to Kiski Area.
