Karns City track and field uses star power to sweep Keystone: Roundup

Bryce Galan won three individual events to help Karns City’s boys defeat Keystone 100-50 in track and field action on Wednesday.

Galan captured first place in the 100-meter dash (11.9), 200 (22.3) and high jump (5-6).

Owen Kaufman took the triple jump, 400 run and ran a leg on the winning 4x800 and 4x400 relay teams.

Alex Wilson contributed to wins in the 4x100, 4x400 and won individually in the pole vault and long jump.

In the girls’ meet, Mya Jones pulled a trifecta by winning the high jump (4-10), long jump (14-10) and triple jump (28-5) as the Gremlins earned a 91-58 win.

Boys volleyball

Despite 12 kills from Glenn Jensen, Mars lost a 3-1 decision to Aquinas Academy by scores of 25-14, 21-25, 25-19 and 25-21.

Will Suppa added five kills and Alston Hung three kills and an ace for the Planets.

Flag Football

Gabby Valentine threw touchdown passes to Katelyn Phillips and Ava Vangura and Simone Sharpless added a rushing score in North Catholic’s 18-14 victory against Hampton.

Riley Marsico and Lizzie Fabian led the defense in flag pulls. Marsico, Fabian, Vangura, Sharpless and Katie Miller each had an interception.

Seneca Valley 7, Cathedral Prep 0 — No other details were provided from the Raiders’ first win of the season.

Girls lacrosse

Mars shut out North Catholic 20-0, with seven players scoring multiple goals.

Leading the way was Anna McGrath with four scores while Hailey Long added three.

Finding the net twice were Lucy Balazs, Katie Blake, Makenna Weaver, Ella DePaoli and Reanna Schmitt.

Softball

The first four batters in Freeport’s lineup — Mady Bell, Grace Palko, Addyson Caruso and Addi Gourley — combined to go 10-for-20 with 10 RBIs in a 12-8 victory over Knott County Central (Ky.) in South Carolina.

Palko’s day included a double and triple.

Ali Smith earned the win in relief, striking out six and allowing three unearned runs in five innings.
