Butler Area School District’s board of directors received an award recognizing outstanding leadership in the district.

The Tri-State Area School Study Council’s D. Richard Wynn Distinguished School Board Award is named in honor of D. Richard Wynn, executive secretary of the study council from 1974 to 1980. The award aims to honor his ideals of leadership and compromise to benefit students. He believed that “when adults work together effectively, students are the ultimate beneficiaries,” according to information on the school district’s website.

Butler Area superintendent Brian White congratulated board members and thanked them for their commitment to supporting students.

The current board includes Al Vavro, Gary Shingleton, John Conrad, Jennifer Cummings, Jennifer Daniels-Wells, Phil Heasley, Terry Stivason, Nina Teff and Cecilia Tomko.
